TWO ‘FAMILLE VERTE’ TILES

Of rectangular form, with a pair of rectangular holes on each perimetral side, one with the front decorated with a scene with a bearded man escaping with a lady on his shoulders and a box in his raised right hand, a man and a woman looking at them from a window, the other with a scene of an encounter between a bearded dignitary and a younger man, a lady offering them something to drink, another standing man beyond the younger personage, the composition set in a room with a large table with a writing set, a large landscape painting, a corner of the garden with bamboos and a fence.
The reverse of both the tiles with flowers and birds, the compositions surrounded by a frame with flower heads against a diaper ground, the decoration painted with the enamels of the ‘Famille Verte’ palette.
This kind of tile was usually thought to be use as a decorative element for a furniture.
