AN APPLE-GREEN-CRACKLED-GLAZED VASE WITH GILT BRONZE MOUNT
the vase Qing dynasty, mid 18th century; the mount European, 19th century
21 cm high
Provenance: Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) collection.
inv. n. 3418.

This kind of glaze, with its characteristic brilliant apple-green colour and a dense crackling, was realized using a copper enamel fired at a lower temperature above a first crackled ‘Ge type’ glaze, which could perfectly be seen in the internal surface of this item.
Vases of this typology were produced for a brief period around the mid eighteenth century, and they are usually unmarked (R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Meiyintang Collection, 2 volls, London 1994, II, nn. 882-883, about two small vases with this kind of glaze in the Meiyintang collection).
