The turquoise glaze, produce with copper oxide and traditionally more appreciated in Near-East countries, arose to prominence in China only during the Kangxi reign when this colour reached a previous unseen brilliance. It was especially favoured on pieces with shapes and decoration inspired by archaic bronzes such as the one here discussed.

For a turquoise-glazed vase with similar archaistic shape, see J. Ayers, La collection de porcelains chinoises de Marie Vergottis, Lausanne 2004, n. 184.
