This scene is known in Europe as “The Bird Seller” but a more appropriate definition could be “The Tender Trap” (D. Howard – J. Ayers, China for the West. Chinese Porcelain and other Decorative Arts for Export illustrated from the Mottahedeh Collection, 2 voll., London – New York 1978, II, n. 349, regarding a cup and saucer with similar shape and comparable decoration).
A pair of similar cups and saucers are in the Groninger Museum (inv. 2015.0215 and 2015.0216).
