A PAIR OF BLUE-GLAZED AND GILT-DECORATED BALUSTER VASES
Qing dynasty, first half of the 18th century
32,5 cm high each
Provenance: Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) collection.
inv. nn. 3816, 3820.

The two vases with hexagonal section, standing on a splayed foot, two handles in the shape of stylized animals on the long neck, the whole external surface with a dark deep blue glaze, the gilt decoration shows on one of the larger sides of the body a scene with a sage near a table with objects in a natural setting, the other side with a lakeside landscape, the neck with bamboo trunks.

A group of vases with similar shape but missing the gilt decoration is in the British Royal Collection (J. Ayers, Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen, 2 voll. London 2016, II, pp. 557-562, nn. 1353-1359: the author dates them to 1730-1760).
