A PAIR OF ‘BLUE AND WHITE’ OVOID JARS AND COVER WITH GILT METAL MOUNT

The ovoid body surmounted by a cylindrical neck, the mid section of the body with a stylized vegetal arabesque interlaced with herons, the shoulder with a scroll of racemes, the cover with ruyi heads, two holes on the shoulder and two to the cover, each underlined by a metal ring, the mouth with a metal scalloped belt.
These two vases were adapted in Europe to serve as incense burners, realizing the holes on the shoulders and on the cover and underlining them with gilt metal rings.
Similar jars with cover belonged to the collection of Augustus the Strong (1670-1733), now in the Porzellansammlung in Dresden (inv. PO 2495-2496).
