A PAIR OF ‘BLUE AND WHITE’ LARGE DISHES

Standing on a large circular foot, both the dishes with rounded walls and a flat inclined rim, a round medallion to the centre of the well decorated with a scene of an audience with male figures inside a pavilion and surrounded by four sprays of chrisanthmums, lotus, camellia and prunus, the rim with a series of lively sketches with male and female personages in the landscape.

A dish of a smaller size but with a very similar decoration is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (J. Van Campen, Supplement to Chinese ceramics in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The Ming and Qing dynasties, in collaboration  with C.J.A. Jörg, Amsterdam 1997, p. 28, n. 293).
