A PAIR OF ‘BLUE AND WHITE’ CYLINDRICAL VASES AND COVER

The cylindrical body with splayed base and mouth surmounted by a domed cover with lotus bud finial, the decoration showing four floral sprays to the mid section of the body, toward the base and to the upper zone of the body a band of leaf-shaped cartouches with floral scrolls reserved on the blue ground, the covers with a similar decoration of floral arabesques.
Related vases are in the Porzellansammlung, Dresden, formerly in the collection of Augustus the Strong (1670-1733) (see for example inv. n. PO 7091); see also the similar piece in the Groninger Museum (inv. 1904.0166).
The same shape and a similar decorative scheme were used in the same period also for ‘Famille Verte’ enamelled vases (see the piece again in the Porzellansammlung in Dresden, inv. n. PO 357).
