A PAIR OF ‘BLUE AND WHITE’ BARRELL-SHAPED FLASKS WITH METAL STOPPERS
the bottles Qing dynasty, Kangxi period, early 18th century; the stoppers European, early 18th century
15,6 cm high each
Provenance: Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891).
inv. nn. 3805, 3807.
The two barrel shaped bottles are decorated to the exterior with three floral compositions inside large lobed cartouches, the lower and the upper zones of the body with bands of spirals alternating to friezes with oblique lines.
The metal stoppers on these flasks – shaped as a real large European barrel and used to hold spirits – hide the original porcelain small openings usually present on this kind of vessel.
