An intense powder blue ground enriched with a fine gilded decoration of floral sprays surrounds a large foliated reserve with a scene of literati in a lakeside landscape with mountains, trees, rocks, some pavilions and a bridge, the rim with eight lobed cartouches alternating floral compositions to landscapes, a lozenge inside two concentric circles to the centre of the base.
A dish with a similar composition is illustrated in C.J.A. Jörg, in collaboration with J. Van Campen, Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The Ming and Qing Dynasties, London 1997, p. 146, n. 158; three other comparable examples from the Medici family collection in Florence are published in F. Morena, Dalle Indie orientali alla corte di Toscana. Collezioni di arte cinese e giapponese a Palazzo Pitti, Florence 2005, pp. 207-208, nn. 118-120; see also the examples in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul (R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, 3 voll., London 1986, nn. 3248-3249), the comparable dish in Polesden, Surrey (inv. n. NT 1245558) and the similar piece in the Fitzwilliam Museum (inv. n. C.4-1911).
