Small sculptures similar to this were exported to Europe from already the late seventeenth century.
The inventory of Burghley House compiled in 1688 registers “figures sitting in Chaires” (G. Lang, The Wrestling Boys. An exhibition of Chinese and Japanese ceramics from the 16th to the 18th century in the collection at Burghley House, exhibition catalogue, Stamford 1983, p. 90, n. 235: the author associate this description to ‘blanc de Chine’ small sculptures, but it is not impossible that it could referred to polychrome pieces such as this one in the Duca di Martina Museum).
