The interior of the dish painted with a composition of peonies, chrysanthemums, lotuses and other flowers, a big willow tree, a swallow and a taihu rock, all the elements beyond a fence with ruyi heads, the decoration painted in the bright enamels of the ‘Famille Verte’ palette with coats of gold.
Willow (liu) is a popular motif in Chinese art, often associated with scholars and poets who are portrayed along a river or a lake near one of this trees. A willow and a swallow together symbolized summer.
