A ‘FAMILLE VERTE’ BOTTLE VASE AND STAND
Qing dynasty, Kangxi period, early 18th century
the vase 15 cm high, the stand 5,5 cm high
Provenance: Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) collection.
inv. n. 3849.

The vase has a globular body and the lower part of the neck shaped with coves shells which recall the natural swellings of the bamboo stem; the long cylindrical neck ends with an expanded mouth; the stand with four curved legs.
The decoration, painted with the enamels of the ‘Famille Verde’ palette, consists of small square cartouches with flowers and on the neck of bands with a geometric ground of lozenges alternating with bands with floral motifs.

A very similar vase and stand, differing for the presence of two bamboo-trunk-shaped handles on the neck, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (inv. n. 622&A-1903).
