The shape of this ewer, used in Europe as a tea pot, derives from containers conceived in China to hold wine. Similar items are also known with a ‘Famille Verte’ decoration.
The Duca di Martina Museum in Villa La Floridiana in Naples houses a wonderful collection of Chinese Art.
Created by Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) in the second half of the nineteenth century, it is certainly one of the most important in Italy and Europe, with outstanding examples of porcelain, cloisonné, bronzes and carvings, dating from Yuan to Qing dynasties.
