A ‘BLUE AND WHITE’ OVOID JAR AND COVER, GUAN

The ovoid body moulded with a series of vertical ribs, the cylindrical cover with flat upper side, four round medallions with some of the ‘Hundred Antiques’ to the body, toward the base and to the shoulder a band with stylized lotuses.
A very similar lidded jar is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (J. Van Campen, Supplement to Chinese ceramics in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The Ming and Qing dynasties, in collaboration with C.J.A. Jörg, Amsterdam 1997, p. 18, n. 155); see also the related piece with silver cover in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (inv. n. 95.538).
