A ‘BLANC DE CHINE’ HANDLED GLOBULAR JAR AND COVER
Qing dynasty, Kangxi period, early 18th century
11,5 cm high
Provenance: Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) collection.
inv. n. 3668.

The globular body raised on a cylindrical foot and surmounted by a short circular neck with domed cover, the shoulders with a long loop handle, the body with floral sprays applied in high relief, a moulded geometrical band to the shoulder, the cover with a series of moulded stylized leaves around a pierced hole holding originally a handle.

The globular shape of this jar is almost rare in the production of the Dehua Kilns. P.J. Donnelly (P.J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, London 1969, p. 177, pl. 66A) illustrates one example, missing the loop handle.
