A ‘FAMILLE VERTE’ ROULEAU BALUSTER VASE
Qing dynasty, Kangxi period, early 18th century
46,5 cm high
Provenance:  Naples, Villa della Floridiana, Museo Duca di Martina, Placido de Sangro (1829-1891) collection.
inv. n. 3341.

The main scene on the body of this vase consists of a group of figures in a landscape with rocks and trees. One of them is pointing at the sun which is partially covered by clouds.

A similar decoration appears on a vase in the Gugong Museum, illustrated by Chen Runmin (C. Runmin, The Gugong Museum Collection of Qing Dynasty Porcelain. Shunzhi Period and Kangxi Period Underglaze blue, Beijing 2005, pp. 434-435, n. 282), who interprets it as a symbol of an imminent promotion for a member of the bureaucracy.
